Elected women’s representatives
Promoting gender equality and gender mainstreaming are key cross-departmental tasks at FAU. The position of women’s representative was created in 1989 to ensure that equality measures were indeed put into practice. The post of women’s representative at a Bavarian university is a voluntary position that is key to ensuring universities meet statutory equality requirements.
The tasks, rights and obligations of the women’s representatives are stipulated in Section 4 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG). The FAU Constitution goes further than the BayHSchG and states in Sections 21 and 22 that women’s representatives will have a central and formally acknowledged role in monitoring and implementing equal opportunities in the University’s bodies and committees. In Bavaria, women’s representatives are volunteers.
The brochure “Women’s Representatives at Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Description of the office” details the basic legal and formal requirements of the position of women’s representative, the tasks and rights it entails, and describes how equal opportunities are integrated into all areas across FAU.
