Networking in the area social background and education
Promote networking of first-generation students at FAU
Networking events at FAU for first-generation students and students from non-academic households.
In order to encourage first-generation students at FAU to network with others, Diversity Management at the Office of Equality and Diversity launched a networking format via StudOn for students from all faculties and semesters in 2022.
The StudOn platform offers space for peer-to-peer interactions, empowerment and information on the services offered by Diversity Management.
A first meeting was held in winter 2022. Topics included financing studies, finding your feet at university (especially in the first semesters), how to communicate with your family concerning your university studies, as well as what you would like from us and FAU, and feedback on what currently works well.
Further events are in the pipeline.
Register for the StudOn course “Vernetzung von Erstakademiker*innen at FAU” (Networking for first-generation students at FAU) here.
We look forward to welcoming you!
For all those who are the first person in their family to study for a degree
ArbeiterKind.de encourages school pupils from families without experience of university to be the first in their family to study for a degree. Across Germany, 6,000 volunteers in 80 local ArbeiterKind.de groups inform young people about the option of studying for a degree and to support them on their journey from beginning a degree to successfully completing it and starting a career. By using accessible and comprehensive peer-to-peer mentoring, AbeiterKind.de hopes to increase the proportion of first-generation students at universities and, at the same time, lower the number of students who drop out of university. https://netzwerk.arbeiterkind.de/
The Erlangen-Nuremberg group meets regularly every 2nd Thursday in the month. Please contact the group via e-mail if you are interested in taking part: nuernberg@arbeiterkind.de
