Legal basis

The legal basis for equal opportunities, diversity and family policy at universities in Bavaria is set out in various legal texts. The following laws apply to research staff and students:

• German Basic Law (Grundgesetz)(Section 3, sentence 2 and 3)
• General Equal Treatment Act (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz)(Section 1 and Section 5)
• Bavarian Act on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men (Bayerisches Gleichstellungsgesetz)
• Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) (on equality: Section 22, on targets for increasing the proportion of women: Section 23, on the role and participation of women’s equality officers: Section 30, Section 35, Section 36, Section 41, Section 66, Section 117, Section 118).
